Extra £2.7m investment in Albion's Falmer stadium

The 22,500-seater stadium is due to host its first match in August 2011

Plans to build a restaurant and bar at Brighton and Hove Albion's new stadium in Falmer have been announced.

The club said the facility will be built on a previously unused floor of the East Stand with an additional £2.7m investment.

Brighton and Hove Albion have been without a stadium since their former home closed in 1997 and was then sold.

Work on the construction of the 22,500-seater ground is due to be completed in May 2011 at a cost of £93m.

Chief executive Martin Perry also announced plans to build up to 400 extra luxury seats in the East Stand.

The club said its 14 corporate boxes had been snapped up, as well as all of its 2,500 luxury seats.

The initial planning application for stadium on land north of Village Way, in Falmer, was submitted to Brighton and Hove City Council in 2001.

It was accepted by the government in July 2007 after a High Court challenge and two public inquiries.
