Steve Cram named as starter of Brighton Marathon

Steve Cram will officially start the second Brighton Marathon on 10 April

British middle-distance legend Steve Cram will officially start the Brighton Marathon, organisers have announced.

The two-time Commonwealth 1,500m gold medallist said he was "really looking forward" to the race.

He said: "It has very quickly established itself as one of the most respected road races in the UK."

The Brighton Marathon, which takes place on 10 April, will have 15,000 runners, compared to 12,000 during the first staging of the race last year.

Race director Tim Hutchings said: "Steve was my hero when I was running. His name resonates still with millions of Britons."
