Project to stop water main bursts in Haywards Heath

A scheme to reduce the number of water main bursts in an West Sussex town is to begin.

South East Water is to start replacing about 350m (427ft) of the water main pipe work on 25 July.

The construction work on Harlands Road in Haywards Heath is expected to take six weeks to complete.

The scheme is part of an ongoing programme to improve the water main network in Sussex.

James Smith, from South East Water, said: "When a water main bursts it can cause interruptions to customer's drinking water supplies as well as damage to the highway.

"There is then further disruption to motorists while we work to reinstate the road."

Harlands Road has had six water main bursts since April 2005, the firm said.
