No agency staff will be used during a week-long strike by refuse and recycling workers in Brighton and Hove, the city council has announced.

Workers are due to go on strike from Friday, after voting for industrial action in a row over pay.

The GMB union say staff face pay cuts of up to £4,000 a year.

Council leader Jason Kitcat said that any agency workers currently employed to clean streets or collect refuse would be stood down on Thursday night.

GMB welcomed the announcement and said negotiations with the authority would continue.

The union said the workforce was "determined to fight these unfair cuts".

The council said changes to staff terms were driven by a need for a "fair, consistent and transparent" pay and allowances system.
