More than 90 firefighters are tackling a blaze at a pub in Oving in West Sussex.
The fire started in the thatched roof of The Gribble Inn in Gribble Lane, West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said.
Fire service area manager Adrian Murphy said: "We're making great progress with the roof fire.
"The fire was quite well developed into the thatch when we arrived."
A spokesman added: "Crews will be on the scene for quite some considerable time".
An investigation into the cause is due to begin once the fire is extinguished.
The spokesman said there was no indication that the pub had been struck by lightning.
