A man has died after being arrested by Sussex Police.

The 32-year-old was detained and put in a police van in Ryecroft, Haywards Heath, just before midnight on Saturday.

After becoming unwell, he was taken out of the van and given CPR. He was taken to hospital where he later died.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has started an investigation and the coroner has been notified, Sussex Police said.

A post-mortem examination would be carried out later, the IPCC said.

Anyone who witnessed the incident in Ryecroft or who saw police officers with the man, is asked to contact the IPCC.
