The latest phase of construction on a seafront park in Hove has begun.

Work has commenced on a garden, skate park, bike pump track and roller skating area as part of the Kingsway to the Sea development.

Construction on the £13.7m project had been suspended in June while Brighton & Hove City Council reviewed how it could be delivered within budget.

But work began on an outdoor sports hub last month after the project was reinstated, ahead of this latest stage.

The bike pump track and roller skating area will both be a first for the city, according to the council.

Kingsway to the Sea was approved in July 2022 and will provide seafront sports facilities and a new café.

The scheme, being built on land between King Alfred Leisure Centre and Hove Lagoon, is due to receive £9.5m from the Government's Levelling Up fund.

Councillor Julie Cattell said: "From the outset the community has inspired and directed the entire project.

"Representatives from the local skate park, biking and roller community have all been involved in the design of the wheeled sports areas.

"These will be a key part of what will be a brilliant public park for residents and visitors alike."

The work is expected to be completed next summer.
