A search is under way for two people and a toddler who police believe may be sleeping in a park in Brighton.

A member of the public contacted Sussex Police about a teenage girl who had been sleeping in Queens Park.

The girl has been seen with a man, described as late teens to early 20s, and a child aged about 18 months.

Det Supt Kris Ottery said: "We are working hard to establish the identity of these two people and the toddler, and the circumstances around them."

The group were last seen in the park on 6 December, police said.

Searches of the surrounding area have been carried out and officers are trying to establish their identities, Det Supt Ottery added.

"We are keen to provide any assistance that we can to them to ensure their safety and that they receive appropriate support, particularly during these changeable weather conditions," she said.

"The toddler is believed to be a boy with pale skin, blonde hair, rosy cheeks, and was last seen wearing a thick red snowsuit and wellington boots.

"We're appealing for anyone who may have seen them either before or after 6 December, or who has any information which could help us locate them, to please get in touch."

The girl is reported to have blonde hair and was last seen wearing a pale blue and pink tracksuit. She speaks with a northern accent.

The group is believed to have a pushchair that is overladen with baggage.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
