The husband of a woman who vanished in 2016 said he still hopes she will return home.

Fatima Mohamed-Ali was last seen walking in the direction of the centre of Newhaven, the town where she lived with her family.

The 52-year-old grandmother had not taken her keys, purse or phone.

A police search failed to locate her, and no trace of her has ever been found. But her husband Mohamed Mohamed-Ali has not given up hope.

"I'm always waiting, thinking 'one day the bell will ring or a knock will happen.'" he said.

"2016, that's when my life stopped. I'm just living and breathing. That's all."

Sussex Police said they also hope to be able to solve the mystery.

Det Ch Insp Andrew Harbour said: "We are regularly undertaking reviews of that enquiry.

"Anyone with any information, even if it seems insignificant, I'd appeal to give us a call."

Mr Mohamed-Ali said he was tortured by thoughts of what may have happened to his wife.

"Has anybody done any harm to her?" he said.

"Has she done harm to herself? Considering we live very close to the coast, did she go into the water?"
