An 80-year-old man who was killed in a crash was "much-loved" in his local community, his family have said.

Michael Bartholomew, from Wadhurst, was a passenger in a white Honda which collided with a blue Vauxhall in Ticehurst on 8 December.

The Honda driver, an 81-year-old man, was taken to hospital with serious injuries but has since been discharged.

Mr Bartholomew, who died on 21 December, was "a plumber by trade" who everyone knew, his family said.

In a tribute, they said the father-of-two was a footballer in his younger days and an avid cricketer.

They continued: "As a plumber by trade, everyone knew him in Wadhurst. He was a much-loved man in the village.

"[He] was the partner of Eileen for 13 years after he lost his first wife, and they spent many happy years together."

The crash happened on the junction of Whiligh and High Street in Ticehurst at about 12.50 GMT on 8 December.

Anyone with information or footage of the crash is urged to come forward.
