Work on a £9m scheme to transform a Middlesbrough park has started.

The overhaul of Stewart Park was made possible with more than £4m from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Big Lottery Fund.

There will be a visitor centre, education venue, shop and two public event spaces and lakes, paths and woodland areas will be improved.

The scheme will also involve many of the estate's Victorian buildings being opened up to the public.
