Durham Tees Valley Airport has been allocated £10m for a new road and business park

A new link road and business park at Durham Tees Valley Airport have moved a step closer after £10m was allocated.

The Peel Group, parent company of the airport's majority shareholder, is pledging £5m with a further £5m earmarked subject to conditions from the Government's Local Growth Fund.

The airport said the Aero Centre Tees Valley could create up to 3,000 jobs.

Plans are now being submitted to Stockton and Darlington Councils.

The plans include the construction of a new 1.1 mile (1.8km) link road between the north and south sides of the airport, running around the eastern end of the airport runway, together with a large building forming the first phase of the 1.9 million sq ft Aero Centre Tees Valley.

Robert Hough, chair of Durham Tees Valley Airport, said the aim is to make the airport a "major hub for business and general aviation".
