The search for Scott Fletcher extended to the Durham, Cumbria and Liverpool areas where it was believed he had connections

Three men have been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder in connection with the disappearance of a North East man.

Scott Fletcher, from Hartlepool, has not been seen since May 2011 in a lay-by opposite the Jet garage on the A181 at Wheatley Hill, near Durham.

A body has not been located, a Cleveland Police spokeswoman said.

Men aged 36, 38 and 48 from County Durham have been arrested and are in custody.

Two years ago officers revealed Mr Fletcher was "known to criminals and in debt".

In May this year, the force said it would review its investigation and revisit witnesses.
