Scott Fletcher from Hartlepool disappeared four years ago today

Police investigating the disappearance of a Hartlepool man will review their efforts, four years after he was last seen.

Scott Fletcher was last seen on 11 May 2011 in a lay-by opposite the Jet garage on the A181 at Wheatley Hill, near Durham.

Two years ago Cleveland Police revealed he was known to criminals and had debt problems - prompting fears he had come to harm.

Officers will be revisiting witnesses, external.

Det Supt Jon Green said: "We remain open-minded to the possibility that he may have come to some harm, and revisiting some of the witnesses in the case may uncover new information to piece together where and why he went.

"Scott's family are still enduring the agony of not knowing what exactly happened to him.

"They have been informed we will be reviewing the case and have given their support in a bid to urge people to come forward.

"Whilst Scott was in some debt prior to his disappearance and was known to the criminal fraternity, we believe there are people who may be withholding information from us.

"But with the passage of time they may now feel they can get in touch about what they know."
