The male voice choir members are marching 18 miles in aid of struggling steelworkers

Fifty members of a Teesside male choir completed an 18-mile (30km) march in "miserable" weather to raise money for redundant SSI steelworkers.

Members of Infant Hercules set off from Stockton and ended their trek outside the gates of the former steelworks in Redcar.

The plant closed in October with the loss of 2,200 jobs.

Choirmaster Mike McGrother said his walkers, who sang We Shall Overcome, were "very tired but proud."

He said: "Everyone on Teesside knows someone affected by the closure of the steelworks.

"We wanted to show the Redcar community and all those struggling through austerity and unemployment across the Tees Valley that they aren't forgotten.

He said: "Walking and singing - simple but so, so, so poignant."

The march has so far raised more than £900., external
