The fire happened at about 0335 GMT on Wednesday on The Avenue, Felling.

Four sheds were damaged and numerous pigeons and rabbits killed. However other animals, including five geese and five ferrets, were rescued.

Police said the fire, which is believed to be suspicious, was fully extinguished. They said witnesses saw two youths in the area at the time.

The first was described as 5ft 7in tall, aged between 15 and 20 and wearing a black fleece top with a tear in the back, black tracksuit bottoms and white trainers.

The second youth is described as about 15 years old and slim. He was wearing light coloured tracksuit bottoms, white trainers and a black hat.
