Cramlington emergency hospital contract awarded

A contract has been awarded to build a new £70m emergency care hospital in Northumberland.
Lend Lease is to build the centre at Cramlington which will receive 999 and GP emergency admissions.
An intensive care unit will provide specialist critical care for up to 18 patients. Seven other wards will contain 210 beds.
It will take about two years to build the facility for Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
The Trust said it would be among the first in England to have specialist A&E consultants on site 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
