Stars are to put on a fundraising show to mark what would have been football legend Sir Bobby Robson's 80th birthday.

The line-up for the musical comedy at the Sage in Gateshead on Monday includes Dire Straits' Mark Knopfler and X Factor star Joe McElderry.

The former England, Newcastle, Ipswich and Barcelona manager set up a cancer research charity in 2008.

He died in 2009 after his fifth battle against the disease.

The event will also raise money for the Alan Shearer Foundation for children and adults with disabilities.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas and players Steve Harper, Shola Ameobi and Steven Taylor will take to the stage to talk about their memories of Sir Bobby.

Sir Bobby's widow Lady Elsie said: "I'm so touched by the enthusiasm there is for this event."
