A man hopes to buy a house in the same Sunderland street as his sister after they won £1m on the EuroMillions.

Unemployed fork-lift driver John Summerville, 52, and dinner supervisor Margaret Caffry, 67, take it in turns to play their numbers each week.

Mr Summerville took his ticket into a shop to check following last Friday's Millionaire Raffle draw and initially thought they had won just £4.90.

He said it was an "unbelievable feeling".

The Sunderland fan spoke about the win at the city's Stadium of Light.

He said when he handed the ticket to the shop assistant to have it checked, the machine indicated that the shop was not allowed to pay out, so he thought he had done something wrong with it.

"She said, 'I'm not allowed to pay out, I will get the manager', and he came and said, 'you have won something big'. I went completely numb," he said.

Mr Summerville said he was considering buying a house in the same street as his sister, where she lives with her sons Jason, 38, and Gary, 36, and Jason's son Curtis, 17.

She said she enjoys working with children and did not plan to give up her job.

"People might think I am greedy carrying on working, but I love doing it," she said.
