A man arrested after petrol bombs were thrown at armed police has been detained under the Mental Health Act.

Officers were called to reports of a man who had barricaded himself inside a house on Lintz Terrace, Burnopfield, County Durham, on Tuesday.

Police finally entered the property at 11:30 BST on Wednesday.

A 47 year old was arrested for making threats to kill and criminal damage but Durham Constabulary said he will not face criminal charges.

No one was injured during the incident.
