Newcastle's landmark Swing Bridge is to reopen after structural repairs were completed ahead of schedule.

The Grade II-listed structure was due to be shut to pedestrians, cyclists and all traffic for two days.

However, Gateshead Council said work had now been completed and the bridge would reopen on Tuesday.

Last month a campaign was launched to try to get the bridge, which has not turned since 2019, rotating again.

The Swing Bridge spans the River Tyne between Newcastle and Gateshead.
