A Swindon bride is preparing to travel to her wedding in an unconventional mode of transport - a skip.

Noreen Quin, 43, will be transported in the converted rubbish container to the town's registry office on Saturday.

She said her fiance Nick Kearns, who has a skip hire company, wanted to make a special carriage for "his princess".

"It's got bells, lights, curtains, the whole lot. You wouldn't chuck rubbish in it when you see it. He's even put a roof on it," she said.

The couple, who both work at Quicktime Skips in Swindon, have been together for a year.

Mr Kearns said: "It took me about two-and-a-half weeks.

"I did my best to go into every detail. It was difficult but we got there. I drew a picture and away we went."

The wedding party will also travel in the skip

Ms Quin said the skip, which is blue with glitter, did have rubbish in it, but that it was cleared out and carpeted and had seats and seatbelts installed.

"My fiance always calls me his princess and he wanted to make me a princess's carriage out of a skip," she said.

"It's got a drop door on the back for me to get out and it's lowered on and off the lorry."

The couple say they have fitted the skip out so that it abides by road safety laws.

The skip will also be used to transport the wedding party to the reception.

The pair said it was uncertain what would become of the carriage afterwards.
