RAF Hercules' final trip from Wiltshire to Staffordshire
- Published
A Hercules aircraft has started its journey by road from RAF Lyneham in Wiltshire to Hixon airfield in Staffordshire.
The fuselage was taken by a truck on the A3102 before travelling along the M4 and M5.
A Wiltshire Police spokesman said the load was one of the largest to have been transported on the county's roads.
"Subject to the weather and operational commitments the two wings will be moved on 16 and 23 January," he said.
It is understood the decommissioned 44 tonne airframe is to be dismantled for parts.
