Electricity back on after power cuts due to strong winds

Power has now been restored to homes in the Salisbury area of Wiltshire, after power cables were brought down in strong winds.

Areas including Shrewton, Coombe Bassett, Stapleford, Berwick St James, Winterbourne Stoke and Broadchalke were all affected on Thursday.

Southern Electric said the final customers had their power restored just before 01:30 GMT on Friday.

At the peak of the problem more than 1,000 homes were without electricity.
