'Long-term solution' needed for Aldbourne sewage problem

Residents of a Wiltshire village say a "long-term solution" is needed to solve a recurring sewage problem.

Overflowing drains in Aldbourne are being blamed on high groundwater levels.

Thames Water has spent the last few months pumping out sewers in the village, and in nearby Lambourn.

Aldbourne resident, Nick Josephy, said it is not enough to prevent the problem happening again next time there is heavy rainfall.

Drains have overflowed in the village numerous times over recent years.

Mr Josephy said: "The long-term solution must be some sort of engineering work that results in the sewers being able to deal with the amount of groundwater there is, and stops the groundwater getting into the sewers in the first place."

A Thames Water spokesman said it cannot start inspecting the sewers until the water levels in them have dropped.

He confirmed the company's engineers are working on the problem, and said it is "committed" to putting a long-term solution in place.
