Swindon crash victim Jack Savage's father forgives driver

The father of a man who died when a car he was travelling in struck the back of a lorry says he has forgiven the man who caused it.

Jack Savage, 20, from Wanborough, was killed in the accident on the A419 at Commonhead near Swindon on 11 May.

His friend Jack Hiscock, 23, who was driving, has pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of drink or drugs and will be sentenced on 15 November.

Mr Savage's father, Steve, said he hoped Mr Hiscock avoided prison.

He said: "He wants to pay a penance and we just want that to be as lenient as possible, because his life is all ahead of him.

"Going to prison as he's expecting, whilst it serves a purpose to the public, it serves no purpose for him.

"He would be better getting out and adding some value to society."
