A man who died in a suspected electrocution while trying to clear a tree that had brought down power cables in Wiltshire has been named.

Roger Winston Hayward, 71, from Bremhill near Calne, died while trying to move the tree on Wednesday afternoon, Wiltshire Police said.

A spokesman said "early indications" showed he was electrocuted.

Mr Hayward's family said they were "shocked and deeply saddened" and he was a "larger than life character".

In a statement, they added: "Roger was one of life's workers... never missed a day in his life, doing what he enjoyed to the end, helping others.

"We would be grateful to remain private in our grief whilst we come to terms with our loss."
