Works to change pedestrian routes in a town centre started today as part of a £16m cash injection.

Manvers Street, Fore Street and Wicker Hill in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, will be revamped with money from the government's Future High Streets Fund.

The first phase began today and will take four months to complete.

Wiltshire Council said on-street parking will be suspended while the works take place but roads will stay open to traffic.

The improvements will be split into three phases spanning 12 months.

Manvers Street, a popular pedestrian route into the town centre, will be improved by opening up the area in front of Manvers House.

In addition, the footpath will be widened and paved with slabs to tie in with the surrounding paved areas.

Footpaths will also be widened on Fore Street and Wicker Hill to improve pedestrian routes between the town centre and railway station.
