A road has closed fully for five days for "essential" work to repair and rebuild parts of it.

The A3094 Netherhampton Road, at Quidhampton, near Salisbury, will be closed from 12 to 16 February.

Wiltshire Council has apologised for any inconvenience, but said it is an "essential project" to rebuild the road and improve it for the future.

Diversions will be in place around the work with access for residents and businesses when possible.

As part of the work, depressions will be dug to improve the surface and prevent further damage.

Several other smaller repairs will be made at the same time, including hedge clearing and gully cleaning, the council said.

Councillor Caroline Thomas, Cabinet Member for Transport, said: "We are carrying out this work during half-term to try to minimise disruption as much as possible, but there may be some delays and diversions will be in place throughout the week."

She added Wiltshire Council planned to invest £10m over the next two years maintaining the county's roads.
