Police are appealing for information after a fatal crash on the M4.

A Volvo left the westbound carriageway and collided with a tree between junctions 15 and 16, near Swindon, on Saturday at 11:50 GMT, Wiltshire Police said.

The front seat passenger, a woman in her 60s from Oxford, died at the scene.

Police described the crash, in which two other people sustained life-threatening injuries, as "very serious".

"It happened at a busy time of day on the M4 however, we have not been able to identify as many witnesses as we would expect," said Det Con Leigh Mayhew, from the Serious Collision Investigation Team.

"If you were travelling on the M4 on Saturday morning shortly before midday and you witnessed the collision which happened on the westbound carriageway approximately one mile from junction 16, please get in touch immediately."

Police said the male driver and a female passenger in her 20s remained in a life-threatening condition at Southmead Hospital.

A male passenger aged in his 30s sustained an arm injury.
