M4 crash: Police renews appeal after woman, 60, dies

Officers investigating a fatal crash on the M4 are renewing their appeal for information.

A Volvo S40 left the westbound carriageway and collided with a tree between junctions 15 and 16, near Swindon, on Saturday at 11:50 GMT, Wiltshire Police said.

The front passenger, a woman in her 60s from Oxford, died at the scene.

The force said officers have not been able to trace as many witnesses as they would expect.

It described the incident as "very serious".

A female passenger aged in her 20s and the male driver were taken to Southmead Hospital in a life-threatening condition.

The driver remains in a serious condition, police said. A a male passenger, aged in his 30s, sustained an arm injury.

'Very serious collision'

Officers are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have dashcam footage to contact them.

Det Con Leigh Mayhew from Wiltshire Police's Serious Collision Investigation Team, said: "This was a very serious collision in which a woman sadly lost her life and two other people were very seriously injured.

"It happened at a busy time of day on the M4, however we have not been able to identify as many witnesses as we would expect.

"If you were travelling on the M4 on Saturday morning shortly before midday and you witnessed the collision which happened on the westbound carriageway approximately one mile from junction 16, please get in touch immediately."
