A teenager has been taken to hospital after he was attacked by a group with weapons outside a school.

Wiltshire Police say a 14-year-old boy was assaulted outside St Joseph's Catholic College in Swindon on Tuesday at about 15:15 GMT.

Eight people, whose ages range from 12 to 18, have been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent.

Police said the victim's injuries were not life-threatening.

Six of those arrested have been released on conditional bail, pending further enquiries.

Det Insp Phillippa Sharpley said: "For this to have taken place outside a school, as children were leaving with their parents, is sure to have caused a great deal of concern in the community, however this is being dealt with robustly and with the full force of the law."

Officers have urged anyone who witnessed the attack or is aware of any mobile phone footage to contact them.
