Calne Town Football Club said the lack of a clubhouse had "impeded" its ability to generate funds

A town's historic football club will get a new clubhouse after being granted planning permission.

Calne Town Football Club, in Wiltshire, has been allowed to create the building at its Bremhill View ground.

The club dates back to the 19th Century but has not had its own building for several years.

In its application to Wiltshire Council, the club said its ability to generate money had been "significantly impeded" by the lack of a clubhouse.

It said: "Despite hard work by volunteers to secure funds and deliver upgrades to maintain the ground to the standard required by the FA National Ground Grading, Calne Town have operated without a clubhouse of their own for a number of years.

"The lack of such a facility has significantly impeded the ability of the club to generate funds to compete on a financial level comparable with other clubs at the same level and has restricted the ability of the club to serve as a football hub in the community."

The club has played at Bremhill View since the early sixties and currently plays in the Hellenic League Division One, the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) said.

Calne Town Council supported the application and Wiltshire Council received no objections to the single-storey building.
