An open-top bus parade has marked York City's return to the Football League after eight years.

The Minstermen secured promotion in the play-off finals with a 2-1 win over Luton Town at Wembley on Sunday.

Thousands of people watched the players' bus travel from Bootham Crescent through the city centre.

A reception for the players followed at the city's Guildhall. Sunday's victory follows the club winning the FA Trophy at Wembley on 12 May.

'Remembered forever'

Speaking from the bus, club chairman Jason McGill said: "I have lived in York all my life and I have never seen, witnessed anything like this.

"The scenes are so emotional.

"It's like all of York has come out, it's absolutely fantastic and it bodes so well for the future. I'm loving it."

Manager Gary Mills said the parade topped off a "magical" season.

He said: "This'll be remembered forever.

"Its not just about us, it's about everybody out there on the pavements."
