York Rescue Boat and the local mountain rescue team have resumed the search of the River Ouse

A river search has resumed for a 29-year-old man who went missing in York over a month ago.

North Yorkshire Police cancelled the River Ouse search for Rory Johnson-Hatfield on 24 November because of adverse weather and high river levels.

Dave Benson from York Rescue Boat said the river had now returned to a height which meant the search could resume.

Mr Johnson-Hatfield, from Skipton, was last seen near City Mills at 00:47 GMT on 20 November.

Mr Benson said nine York Rescue Boat volunteers and four people from the local mountain rescue team, plus two dogs, were also involved in the search.

Police fear Mr Johnson-Hatfield may have got into difficulty while walking near the river after a night out, but search efforts were hampered by flooding in the city four days after his disappearance.

He was in the Postern Gate Wetherspoon pub with a friend at 23:30 GMT on Thursday, and left York Central Travel Lodge on Piccadilly at 00:15 on Friday and went to a pub with a fellow hotel guest.

CCTV images show him in Tower Street at about 00:40 and City Mills at 00:47.

He did not return to the hotel and failed to arrive at work the following evening.
