Two people have died after their car crashed off a bridge in North Yorkshire.

Police said the Vauxhall Grandland left the A629 Western Bypass near Skipton at 13:20 BST on Saturday.

The vehicle struck a barrier, before landing next to a canal on Broughton Road, North Yorkshire Police said.

Officers did not say whether Storm Babet and the recent bad weather had been a factor in the crash.

A force spokesperson said the couple's next of kin had been informed and witnesses have been asked to contact police.
