A man who exposed himself at a venue where a children's birthday party was taking place has been jailed.

Joshua Lionel Richardson removed his clothes at Filey Sports Club, where the party was being held, in November 2021.

Sgt Adam Marshall said some of the children had been "literally exposed to his disturbing actions".

At Scarborough Magistrates' Court on Thursday, Richardson, 31, of Bridlington Road, Driffield, was jailed for six months.

Richardson had exposed himself several times at the sports club on 20 November 2021 "in full view" of customers and near a function room where a children's party was being held, North Yorkshire Police said.

He was later arrested and taken to Scarborough Police Station, but when officers opened the van to take him into custody they discovered he had taken off all his clothes.

Richardson was subsequently put under strict bail conditions, which included a ban from entering all licensed premises.

However, he had "blatantly breached" those conditions, according to North Yorkshire Police.

He was arrested three times for visiting pubs and for being near the children's play area at The Mayfield in Seamer on 16 January 2022.

Meanwhile, on the evening of 30 July 2023, Richardson was seen running down the aisle of a Northern train service from Hull to Scarborough while exposing himself to other passengers, police said.

'Aggressive behaviour'

He then went to a pub in Filey, despite being banned, where he was asked to leave.

Richardson reacted by throwing a plant pot through the window and a bottle through an upstairs window into a room where a child was sleeping.

Sgt Marshall said the damage he caused was "shocking and could have resulted in serious injuries".

"Joshua Richardson has a history of drunken and aggressive behaviour which has continued to have a negative impact on residents," he added.

Richardson was sentenced for exposure, criminal damage and committing offences while a community order was in place.

He was also ordered to pay £334 in compensation and fees and he was put on the sex offenders register.
