North Yorkshire Police said she was held on suspicion of displaying threatening, abusive or insulting written material with intent or likely to stir up racial hatred.
The force opened a hate crime inquiry connected to tweets shared on X, formerly Twitter, between 24 January and 18 February.
She remains in custody, police said.
Insp Nicola Colbourne, from the force, said: "We are following all available lines of inquiry and would ask anyone who has any information that could support our investigation to please come forward."
