North Yorkshire Police opened a hate crime inquiry connected to tweets shared on X, formerly Twitter

A woman arrested over antisemitic posts shared on social media has been released under investigation.

She was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of displaying threatening, abusive or insulting written material with intent or likely to stir up racial hatred, North Yorkshire Police said.

The force said it had opened a hate crime inquiry connected to tweets shared on X, formerly Twitter, between 24 January and 18 February.

Inquiries were continuing, police said.

It was likely that those investigations would "take some time", according to North Yorkshire Police.

Anyone with information which could support officers' inquiries was asked to get in touch with the force, a spokesperson said.
