Whitby's Duke of York applies to expand with second bar
- Published
The owners of one of Yorkshire's best-known pubs have applied for permission to expand.
Stonegate Pub Company has asked for Whitby's The Duke of York to extend into its basement and create another bar.
The pub, on Church Street, sits just yards from the popular resort's 199 steps which lead up to Whitby Abbey.
Representations on the application can be made by members of the public and sent to the licensing authority.
The application submitted to North Yorkshire Council seeks permission to "licence the bar in the basement and to permit the sale of alcohol from that area".
If approved, the basement bar area would be allowed to serve alcohol from 10:00 to 22:00, seven days a week, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
However, the application states that the premises' permitted hours for selling alcohol and opening hours would remain unchanged.
Representations can be sent to North Yorkshire Licensing Services at Scarborough Town Hall on St Nicholas Street no later than 19 March.
