From the days following the murder of Constable Ronan Kerr, BBC News show a selection of striking pictures from across the week.
Constable Ronan Kerr, 25, was killed when an explosive device detonated under his car. The PSNI said the device was in a container the size of a lunchbox and was set off by a tilt switch.
Northern Ireland's Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness stood shoulder to shoulder with Chief Constable Matt Baggott, First Minister Peter Robinson and Justice Minister David Ford in a show of unity.
Books of condolence were opened at police stations across Northern Ireland and the PSNI received countless messages of support.
Members of the public left tributes at the scene of Constable Kerr's murder
PSNI Chief Constable Matt Baggott and Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan attended the funeral with Tyrone gaelic football manager Mickey Harte
Constable Kerr's mother, Nuala, and family follow the coffin through the town of Beragh, County Tyrone, to the Church of the Immaculate Conception where the funeral took place.
The funeral was attended by Sinn Fein president Gerry Adams, DUP leader and Northern Ireland First Minister Peter Robinson, Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness and Taoiseach Enda Kenny
