Chris McNeill collapses at Milk Cup game in Portstewart

A teenager is still in hospital after collapsing at a Milk Cup football game in Portstewart.

Chris McNeill, 17, collapsed seven minutes into the game between County Londonderry and County Antrim in the Premier Section on Monday night.

He was revived by a doctor whose son was playing in the game and members of the St John Ambulance.

He is currently under going tests at the Causeway Hospital in Coleraine.

Secretary of the County Derry Football Association, David Reid, said the teenager had no known medical condition and his collapse had been "out of the blue" and a "huge shock" for everyone involved.

Mr Reid had spoken to the hospital.

"We're a lot more pleased to hear that the situation is a lot brighter this morning, than it was last night," he said.

"Chris was sitting up in bed, and had some toast and a drink.

"I hope to visit him on Tuesday."

Milk Cup spokesperson Jim Sandford said the teenager, who plays for Coleraine Football Club, was now in a stable condition.

"I understand that seven minutes into the game one of the County Londonderry players collapsed, fortunately in the crowd there was a doctor on hand," he said.

"His son was also playing in the County Derry team.

"The boy received first-class treatment at the ground from the doctor and also the St John Ambulance staff that were there."

The game was stopped but was restarted a short time later at the request of Chris's parents.
