Tickets for the free Snow Patrol gig were allocated in an hour

Tickets for the free MTV outdoor concert at Belfast City Hall on Sunday 6 November have been snapped up within an hour.

The tickets to see Snow Patrol were made available from 08:00 BST at the Belfast Welcome Centre.

Hundreds of people had camped out overnight, with some queuing from 17:00 BST on Saturday.

Tickets were also available by telephone and online, but they had all been allocated by 09:00 BST.

Belfast Welcome Centre Staff were having to turn fans away from their premises in Royal Avenue within 15 minutes of opening, such was the demand for tickets.

Some disappointed fans claimed both the website and phone lines had crashed on Sunday morning, however Belfast City Council said they "were slow but operational".

On Monday it was announced that the Red Hot Chilli Peppers will also perform in the city on 6 November, at the Ulster Hall.

However, fans will have to pay £42.50 to see the 'Californication' rockers.

The band will play a special one hour set with one song being broadcast within the 2011 MTV EMA ceremony at the Odyssey Arena.

Tickets go on sale on 22 October.

The Snow Patrol concert at Belfast City Hall on 6 November will also feature Jason Derulo.

Tickets for the concert have already appeared on online auction sites.

The council said each ticket had been allocated a number and "therefore may not be exchanged, given or sold to a third party".

"Profiting from the sale of free tickets is also a clear breach of the terms and conditions of obtaining a ticket and is illegal," the council added in a statement.

"The council will investigate any complaints regarding this - should they emerge."
