Stormont construction photographs on show for 80th year
An architectural drawing of Parliament Buildings which was designed by Arnold Thornley.
The original plans for a large-domed building with two subsidiary side buildings, housing all three branches of government - legislative, executive and judicial- fell by the wayside in 1925.
More than 700 trees were cut down to make Stormont a possibility and hundreds of men worked on the construction.
Parliament buildings was built by Stewart & Partners and opened by Edward, Prince of Wales, later King Edward VIII, on 16 November 1932.
The cost of buying the estate was about £20,000, the construction cost was nearly £1.7m.
This year marks the 80th anniversary of the buildings.
An artist's impression of how Stormont would have looked had there been enough money for the dome.
