Air show in Portrush wows spectators

The Red Arrows were among the aerobatic attractions on the first day of Air Waves Portrush

Organised by the Causeway Coast and Glen Borough Council, it is the biggest free air show in Ireland

The show is a two-day affair and it is expected to attract up to 200,000 people

Spectators were thrilled by the jaw-dropping manoeuvres of the Red Arrows

The Red Arrows will be making an appearance on both days of the show

In addition to the aerial displays, there are plenty of attractions on the ground to keep visitors entertained

Members of the British Legion took part in a poppy drop ceremony on East Strand beach during the show

The noise was a bit much for some spectators. RAF Typhoons and the Battle of Britain Memorial trio of Spitfire, Lancaster and Hurricane are among the planes taking part.
