A 29-year-old woman arrested in Newry, County Down, on suspicion of human trafficking for sexual exploitation has been charged by police.

She has also been charged with controlling prostitution for gain and money laundering.

She was arrested on the Tandragee Road by officers from the PSNI's modern slavery and human trafficking unit in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The woman is due to appear in court on Monday.

Det Ch Insp Mark Bell said her arrest was part of a "pro-active investigation into human trafficking for sexual exploitation and the activities of a criminal gang believed to be operating in Northern Ireland".
