Two taken to hospital after crash on A1 road in Newry

Air ambulance lands at Newry crash scene

Two people have been taken to hospital following a crash on the A1 road in Newry, County Down.

The NI Ambulance Service said it received a call about a two-vehicle collision at about 16:00 GMT.

One of those injured was taken by ambulance to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast while the other was taken to Daisy Hill Hospital in Newry.

The NI Ambulance service was in attendance along with the air ambulance. The A1 has since reopened.

The northbound carriageway of the A1, near its junction with the Camlough Road, experienced heavy traffic on Wednesday evening and police are advising motorists to seek an alternative route, if possible.
