Omagh: Man appears in court over Omagh bus depot stabbing

Two people were taken to hospital following the incident at Omagh bus depot

An 18-year-old man has been remanded in custody in connection with the stabbing of three people at a bus depot in Omagh on Saturday night.

The incident happened on Drumragh Avenue at about 22:15 BST.

Two of the victims were taken to hospital. Their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Nathan McDonagh, 18, of Tamlaght Road, Omagh appeared by video-link at Enniskillen Magistrates' Court.

He is charged with wounding a man with intent to commit grievous bodily harm and causing actual bodily harm to a second man.

He faces further charges of assaulting three females - two of whom were caused actual bodily harm - as well as possessing a knife with intent to commit serious injury by stabbing.

A detective constable told the court that police were called to an incident involving a crowd of people.

Mr McDonagh is alleged to have produced a knife with which he slashed one man in the neck.

'Brave thing to do'

He is then alleged to have struck out at the other victims causing cuts to their hands and head.

The officer confirmed that the defendant may also have been seriously assaulted by one of the injured parties and "there may well be another arrest."

A passing motorist who restrained Mr McDonagh until police arrived was commended by the judge who said: "It was a very brave thing to do, especially as there was a knife at the scene."

A defence lawyer told the court his client's family has offered a cash surety of £3,000 and will supervise him if released.

The judge refused bail and Mr McDonagh was remanded in custody to appear again by video-link later this month.
