Omagh: Man dies after incident involving machete

Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances of a man's death in Omagh.

A 53-year-old man died after an incident involving a man armed with a machete.

Police said they received a report at about 23:55 BST on Sunday that two men had been assaulted outside a house in the Slievecoole Park area.

The 53-year-old died a short time later, police said. The other man was treated in hospital for hand injuries.

A 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.

Police have appealed for information about the incident.

A large area of Mullaghmore Drive and Slievecoole Park was cordoned off.

Behind the tape, officers in forensic suits examined a number of scenes.

The investigation appeared to be focused on a number of houses and a white car.

Yellow markers were placed on the ground in several areas.

Shocked residents looked on as the police carried out their inquiries.
