Omagh police station alert: Suspicious object declared hoax

A suspicious object that a motorist was forced to drive to a police station after being held at gunpoint has been declared an elaborate hoax.

The car was hijacked by three masked men near a church outside Omagh in County Tyrone on Saturday night.

Two men, aged 56 and 29, who were arrested in relation to the incident have been released after being questioned.

The hijacking happened near Fireagh Road, off the Dromore Road.

Several homes were evacuated near the police station, on the Derry Road in Omagh, on Saturday night.

Mass was cancelled at St Mary's Church in Drumragh on Sunday morning as a result of a security alert

Sunday Mass was cancelled at the nearby St Mary's Church as a result of the incident, while police searched the grounds.

Fr Eugene Hasson from St Mary's said the incident was "very disruptive to people".

The police said their investigation into the incident is continuing.
